PROGNOST Systems is pleased to announce the DNV certification for the PROGNOST®-SILver machine protection system. The PROGNOST®-SILver technology ensures that critical equipment on vessels operate safely. DNV confirmed this by taking a rigorous look on the SIL3 machine protection system, PROGNOST®-SILver.

DNV is the world’s leading classification society and a recognized advisor to the maritime industry. The certification authority evaluated the PROGNOST®-SILver against the environmental test specification for electronic and programmable equipment and systems. The DNV carried out the necessary tests in cooperation with PHOENIX TESTLAB. In all points, PROGNOST®-SILver successfully passed these tests. Therefore, the system is approved on all DNV-classified vessels and received the prestigious certification. “The positive test results confirm that our systems can be installed on-board marine vessels or mobile offshore platforms without hesitation” shares Ralf Thien, Product Manager at PROGNOST Systems.

Even an installation on the vessel’s deck would be possible with this area certification: Class D for temperature, Class B for humidity and for electromagnetic compatibility, EMC for short, and Class A for vibrations.

In summary, the certification attests the conformity of the PROGNOST®-SILver to the rules and requirements established by the DNV for classification standards according to Part 4 Systems and Components, Chapter 9 Control and Monitoring Systems.

Due to the fluctuating and extreme environmental conditions at sea, the requirements for the systems are more rigorous than those for equipment installed on land. “The protection and reliable availability of critical machinery on a vessel are particularly important for the vessel owner. Systems should be able to withstand the high vibrations, temperature fluctuations and electromagnetic effects on board” describes Ralf Thien, and he goes on to explain that PROGNOST®-SILver ensures machine protection and prevents unknown operating conditions of critical machinery thanks to an intelligent modular concept. With the DNV certification, the system thus meets the stringent industry standards in the maritime sector.
